Windows or Linux?

OnDNet provides two flavours of hosting operating systems, Windows and Linux. Here are some tips on which hosting platform to choose.

Does it have to match the operating system running on my personal computer?

The answer here is no. Once your website is online it can be visited by millions of users. They can be using any operating system on their own devices, being Windos, Mac, Linux or even Android and iOS.

Is your website currently hosted elsewhere?

If you are transferring to OnDNet from a different provider, then you may choose the same hosting platform that you currently use.

What are the site requirements?

There are many programming and scripting languages that a site can be created with, each one having its own requirements. This is a key factor in choosing your hosting platform.

Does the site have a database?

Each web hosting package provided by OnDNet comes with the ability to add databases. With Linux you can build MySQL databases while with Windows you can use Microsoft SQL or Microsoft Access databases.

No specific requirements?

If your site does not have any specific requirements than you can probably use either Windows or Linux.
